Rotterdam Ferry Port Information

About The Port

Despite the large size of the city and its port, there is currently only one ferry route on offer from Rotterdam to the UK. This route is Rotterdam to Hull, with a choice of up to 6 crossings per week depending on the time of year. The sailing duration tends to last around 11 hours and 30 minutes.

The port of Rotterdam dates all the way back to 1283 when a small fishing village was created at the mouth of the Rotte River. It then became a major seaport in 1360 after the construction of a canal to the Schie. From 1962 until 2004, Rotterdam Port was officially the world’s busiest cargo port, before being overtaken by the port of Singapore just under 20 years ago. Despite the magnitude of the entire port itself, the ferry port is relatively small compared to all of the other marine activities that go on here.

The Rotterdam to Hull route is exclusively operated by P&O Ferries. There is just one terminal here.

Directions For Getting There

If you are looking to get there by car, the terminal in Europoort lies approx. 37 km or an hour’s drive from the centre of Rotterdam. On approaching Rotterdam, follow the signs for 'Europoort'. In the Europoort area, just follow the signs 'Engeland' and 'P&O Ferries'. The dock number (Havennummer) of P&O Ferries is 5805. However, there are not too many parking options on arrival.

If you are travelling by train, Rotterdam’s main rail terminal, Centraal Station , serves as the hub of a useful tram and metro system. From there though, you will still need to find a way to get from the centre of Rotterdam to Europoort.

If you are travelling by coach/bus, you can travel from Rotterdam Central Railway Station to Europoort. Departure is at 17:00 hours at the "Eurolines" bus stop at Kruisplein. From Amsterdam Central Railway Station to Europoort, the departure time is at 17:00 hours at bus stop H3. P&O tend to have their own complimentary shuttle service to and from the city centre.
