Harwich Ferry Port Information

About The Port

Harwich International Port is a North Sea port located in Essex. The port is considered to be one of Britain’s most important deep-water harbours and its connections with transporting people and cargo to the Netherlands dates back as far as the 17th century. It became Harwich International in 1998 when it was acquired by Hutchinson Ports, marking a significant moment in the port's history and future.

Ferries from this port travel only one route: from Harwich to Hook of Holland in the Netherlands (or Hoek van Holland in Dutch). It is the perfect crossing if you are wanting to travel further to the likes of Rotterdam and Amsterdam. The crossing is operated by Stena Line and the journey time is 7 hours. Sailings take place 14 times a week and are offered during the day and as overnight ferry.

Directions For Getting There

If you are travelling to Harwich by car, the ferry port is located just outside Harwich itself in Parkeston Quay. This is around 1.5 hours from Cambridge and 2.5 hours from London. The port is well-marked and there is both regular parking and overnight parking available.

If you are travelling to the port by train, you can find plenty that run from London Liverpool Street station to Harwich International. Local rail services arrive at the terminal building, where an escalator will take you directly to the check in point. This is a very convenient way to reach the port.

It is a little more tricky if you are travelling by bus, as the only service that will take you close to the port is the number 2 from Harwich town centre. Services like National Express might be the best way to reach the town if you get a transfer from Ipswich, just under 10 miles away.
