Portsmouth Harbour Ferry Port Information

About The Port

Located on the south coast of the UK, Portsmouth Harbour is the smaller of the two Portsmouth Ferry ports. The port connects passengers in England with Ryde in the Isle of Wight, with a choice of up to 14 crossings per day depending on the time of year.

Portsmouth Harbour has a long and illustrious history, with its heyday being back in Tudor times when King Henry VIII took a particular interest in strengthening the harbour and area as a military defence. His flagship, the Mary Rose, has its remains kept here which sank in the Solent in 1545. HMS Victory, Horatio Nelson’s vessel which saw action at the Battle of Trafalgar is also housed here. It is currently the home of the Royal Navy.

Today, Portsmouth Harbour is the connecting point between England and the Isle of Wight. The ferry crossings are operated by Wightlink.

Directions For Getting There

If you are travelling by car, Portsmouth itself is easily reached from almost all parts of the country. The M275 motorway brings the national motorway network right to the port itself. In terms of parking, as Portsmouth Harbour port is based within Portsmouth Harbour train station, there is no on-site parking available. However, Portsmouth Gunwharf port parking is only a few minutes’ walk away, found on Gunwharf Road.

If you are travelling by rail, National Rail services arrive directly to the Harbour Station. This is an extremely convenient way of arriving at Portsmouth Harbour Ferry Port.

If you are travelling by coach, the story is similar to that of the rail. National Express services from all over the country arrive directly outside the catamaran terminal. There are also more local bus and coach services which can bring you directly to the port.
