About The Port

Liverpool ferry port is one of the busiest in the UK and is one of the most popular for travelling to and from both Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland. Liverpool has two main terminals: Landing Stage Terminal for ferries to the Isle of Man and Gladstone Branch Dock for ferries to Dublin. There is also a ferry port in Birkenhead, Wirral for ferries to Northern Ireland.

The ports of Liverpool have a bit of mixed history, as they played a large role in the transatlantic slave trade. The town derived great civic and personal wealth from the trade and the Internatioanl Slavery Museum at Royal Albert Dock is a poignant visit if you have the time. The ports continued to have significance throughout history as a major trade route and had key roles during WW2.

Today, the ferry ports are run by operators P&O Ferries for the route to Dublin and Isle of Man Steam Packet company for the route to the Isle of Man.

Directions For Getting There

If you are travelling by car, you can find the following information for directions regarding the two terminals:

To P&O Irish Sea Ferries Terminal: Go through Freeport police security entrance, take first left. Terminal is about one mile along on the right hand side. Take a right; follow signs past the front of terminal buildings to passenger check-in. From Liverpool City Centre follow A565 towards Bootle. Take the sign for Liverpool Freeport. From other areas use M57 or M58 and follow signs "All Docks" on A5036. Continue on A5036 for approx. 2 miles until roundabout incorporating a flyover and follow signs for Crosby/Liverpool Freeport.

To Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Terminal: Located at Princes Landing Stage, near the Pier Head. By Road Access to the edge of the city is via the M6/M62 or M58. From the M62, follow signs to the City Centre and then Pier Head signs to the Princes Landing Stage. From M58 follow the A5036 and then the A565 to the Pier Head. From North Wales, take the M53, then the Wallasey Tunnel and the A59 to the Pier Head.

If you are travelling by train, there are plenty of connections from all of the UK into Liverpool Lime Street. From here, both terminals are a relatively short taxi or bus journey away.

With regards to parking, The Q-Park Liverpool ONE car park is ideally situated just minutes away from the Isle of Man Steam Packet port terminal and provides ferry passengers discounted rates when booking online beforehand. The Q-Park car park is also an option if you are using the other terminal in Liverpool.
