About The Port

Heysham Ferry Port is a small port that is situated in the north west of Lancashire. There is only one terminal and currently there is only one ferry route operating from this port: Heysham to Douglas, Isle of Man. It is the ideal way to cross a narrow part of the Irish Sea and reach the Isle of Man from mainland England.

The town and the port itself are steeped in some rich history. St.Peter’s Church in the north of the village is a Saxon building dating back to the 7th century and a collection of ancient graves in the town are said to mark the spot of St. Patrick’s arrival into England.

The port itself has been operating since 1904 and has handled a variety of cargo and passengers throughout its history. It has also been one of the best and most direct ways to access the Isle of Man from the mainland; especially in May and June when the famed TT motorcycle festival takes place on the island.

Directions For Getting There

If you are travelling to Heysham by car, the ferry port can be found on the south bank of the harbour. The A683 is the main road leading up to and is linked with the larger cities of Blackpool and Preston. Car parking is available next to the terminal building with no advanced booking required.

If you are travelling by bus, Stagecoach Ribble operate a bus service from Combermere Road in Heysham. This is approximately a 10-minute walk to the passenger terminal.

If you are travelling by train, the port train station itself is very conveniently located only 50m from the passenger terminal. North Western Train services are what you want to look for, which are connected to the likes of Preston and Lancaster all year round and Manchester, Bolton and Preston in the summer months.
